Yes that’s one more night until Kyle walks into Calgary! Tonight there’s a frost advisory and he’s sleeping in a campground just outside of Calgary. Kyle’s also feeling sick, probably from the cool weather and rain. He will be very happy to be in his own bed tomorrow! We are looking welcoming Kyle back home at his arrival party! I’ll post pictures of the party Sunday.
Kyle is one day out of Lake Louise and is thrilled to be getting close to home! As Kyle said today, “Can’t wait to be in the Motherland!” His ETA to Calgary may also be moving up a week to September 16th as he has been making good time. 😀 In the pictures below, Kyle is trying to hitch a ride home this evening from his campsite which is about 30 km from Lake Louise. In the last one is is speaking at Kicking Horse River Cafe about mental health and his own personal journey with it.
Two years ago Kyle moved out to start The Land Water Resources program at Olds College. Once there he struggled for awhile with adjusting to moving away but also with issues such as group speaking. To see my son two years later, and 2 months after graduation, walking 1200 km to bring awareness to mental illness is incredible. Now he is speaking to not only groups about his mental health journey but also to strangers on the side of the Trans Canada (full disclosure: this pic is of his childhood coach as I didn’t have any stranger pics). My heart explodes with pride for the courage Kyle has illustrated over the last month.
Kyle’s schedule is to arrive in Kelowna on Wednesday night. His body is starting to feel the 200+ Km he has walked so he’ll have a few shorter walking days between Merritt and there.
Kyle plans to rest in Kelowna for a few days. Then head towards home.
Yesterday was family day and today was friend day. A few friends stopped and said hi which really helps spur Kyle forward.
The Puck Off Logo on the map shows where a Kyle was at 2:06 BC time. It’s a cool app we use for safety reasons.
Now Kyle can finally put the Coquihalla Highway behind him, as he’s now in Merritt, BC. It was a great day as his cousin Carol and hubby Franc stopped to say hi.
Kyle’s feet were really swollen and sore! Thankfully when he woke up today all the advice seemed to help and they were much better as he had another day’s walk until he arrived at Merritt. Oh and the rules…apparently this lovely vest is one of them.
Kyle enjoyed some cool refreshments and hearty dinners while camping between Chilliwack and Hope. 😳😬😳
